Birches Community Lights Up for Christmas
5th Dec 2025
The festive season officially began on Thursday 4th December in Birches as the community gathered for the annual Christmas lights switch-on. At exactly 6:00 pm, the honor of illuminating the village fell to two young stars: Georgie Turkington (P1) and Henry Hamill (P2), proud pupils of Birches Primary School.
After the countdown and cheers, families made their way to the school’s assembly hall, where the celebrations continued in true Christmas spirit. The Birches PS choir filled the hall with joyful carols, while talented pupils showcased their musical skills on various instruments, creating a warm and magical atmosphere.
Adding to the festive cheer, The BARN group (Birches Action Rural Network), led by Mary Stafford, served delicious refreshments, ensuring everyone stayed cozy and well-fed. The highlight for many children came when Santa Claus himself made a surprise appearance, delighting the crowd and handing out presents to every boy and girl.
The event was a wonderful display of community spirit, bringing together families, friends, and neighbors to celebrate the season. With music, laughter, and plenty of festive treats, Birches once again proved that Christmas is best enjoyed together.
