School Council meet the Lord Mayor
The School Council were thrilled to be invited to meet the Lord Mayor, Alderman Stephen Moutray, at the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council offices. A special invitation was extended to Megan (P7) in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the swimming pool this year.
Upon arrival, the Lord Mayor warmly greeted everyone and hosted a wonderful reception, which included fruit skewers, pancakes, scones, and a selection of juice, tea, and coffee. Those in attendance enjoyed an informative talk about the history of the Council, and our School Council members took full advantage of the opportunity to ask the Lord Mayor many engaging and thoughtful questions.
A highlight of the visit was the chance for the School Council to hold their meeting in the Council Chambers. Our Chairperson, Amy Wilson, proudly took the Lord Mayor’s seat and confidently conducted the meeting’s business.
The entire experience was truly memorable, and we are extremely grateful to Alderman Stephen Moutray for giving up his morning to provide such a valuable and inspiring opportunity for our pupils. He offered generous praise for the excellent work of the School Council and was delighted to meet Megan personally, congratulating her on her impressive swimming success.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr Mark Cromie, who very kindly helped transport the children to and from the event. His support ensured the visit ran smoothly and was greatly appreciated by both staff and pupils.
Everyone left feeling inspired, and who knows — this visit may have sparked an interest in a future career in politics for some of our pupils!
